This video work by artists Annis Joslin and Chahine Fellahi explores early cinema’s ability to stretch, fragment, and reshape our perception of time. At its centre is Loïe Fuller’s hypnotic dance, her swirling forms and luminous fabric embodying the fluid expansion and contraction of time.
The work was presented as part of Play Back Forward, an exhibition held at Hove Museum from October 2025 to April 2026. Alongside the video, a series of prints generated through a custom algorithm traced points of movement within the performance and translated them into graphic forms.
Together, these works form a shifting cartography of dance: a visual mapping of motion that both preserves and transforms the fleeting gestures of Loie Fuller’s original performance.
