A series of photographic experiments inspired by the early Kinemacolor process developed by George Albert Smith, one of the pioneers of early colour cinema. Drawing from Smith’s use of flowers and botanical imagery, young people from the Wonder Club programme recreated a series of natures mortes and still-life compositions. Using the Kinemacolor bi-colour process — a technique that layers red and green filtered images to reconstruct natural colour — participants produced new images that revisit early cinematic colour experimentation through contemporary, collective processes.

This work was created as part of Wonder Club, a creative programme of workshops for young people at Hove Museum of Creativity led by artist Chahine Fellahi, exploring early film through experimental approaches to photography, film, and image-making. The programme was part of Days of Wonder, a three-year programme exploring film and media heritage in Brighton, curated and produced by videoclub and Corridor Projects in partnership with Brighton & Hove Museums and Screen Archive South East.
