Three short audiovisual works made over six months of workshops with Wonder Club participants in 2024, revisiting early optical and animation processes that were foundational to the emergence of cinema. The first is a series of animated phenakistoscopes using images drawn from early films by Brighton and Hove pioneers. The second, made with artist Sapphire Goss, is a set of stereoscopic animations exploring depth and optical illusion. The final piece uses the trichrome technique inspired by George Albert Smith’s Kinemacolor flower studies, layering red, green, and blue filters to reconstruct natural colour.

This work was created as part of Wonder Club, a creative programme of workshops for young people at Hove Museum of Creativity led by artist Chahine Fellahi, exploring early film through experimental approaches to photography, film, and image-making. The programme was part of Days of Wonder, a three-year programme exploring film and media heritage in Brighton, curated and produced by videoclub and Corridor Projects in partnership with Brighton & Hove Museums and Screen Archive South East.
